History

The Bluegrass Railroad Museum was founded in 1976 and moved to the present location in 1986. The museum purchased 5.5 miles of track from the Southern Railroad from the county park to the Kentucky River. This track was initially laid by the Louisville Southern Railroad Company in 1889. The construction included Young's High Bridge at Tyrone KY. This bridge is 268 feet high and 1,650 feet long and has never been modified or strengthened.
