Before You Arrive
A little planning goes a long way toward a perfect visit. Here's everything you need to know before you step aboard.
Check the Excursion Schedule
Review upcoming departures before planning your trip. Excursions run weekends April through December, with additional special event dates throughout the season.
Purchase Tickets in Advance
Tickets are typically on sale 2–3 months before each departure date. Special Events tend to sell out early — don't wait. Seating is open and available on a first-come, first-served basis once aboard.
Arrive Early for Boarding
Boarding begins 30 minutes prior to departure. For special events or larger parties, we recommend arriving 45 minutes early. Parking is free in Woodford County Park
Dress for the Weather
We run trains rain or shine. Open Air cars have a carport-style cover to protect from the elements. First Class and Coach cars are outfitted with heaters in winter — but we always suggest layering and bundling up.
Bring Your Camera
Capture those special memories! The overlook at Young's High Bridge provides opportunities for up-close locomotive photos and sweeping scenic views of the Kentucky River gorge.
Ticket Sales
Tickets go on sale 2–3 months before each departure. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified the moment new tickets are released — especially for holiday and special event rides.
**Weather Policy**
Trains run rain or shine. In the event of cancellation due to severe weather or mechanical issues, all ticket holders will be notified by email and offered a full refund or complimentary transfer to another date.

Admission
All tickets include the 90-minute scenic excursion train ride and access to indoor museum exhibits. The museum grounds and outdoor equipment are always free to walk — no ticket required.

Special Event Pricing
Holiday and themed excursions (Evening Sunset Ride, Fall Foliage Express, Polar Express Holiday Train) are priced separately and typically range from $22–$28 for adults. Check the schedule page for individual event pricing. Group discounts available for parties of 15 or more.
Weekday Group Charters
The museum offers weekday-chartered train rides for groups of 30 or more, bookable 30 days in advance. Special excursions for school groups, corporate events, reunions, and scout troops can be arranged outside of the regular weekend schedule. Contact us at (859) 873-2476 for charter pricing.
Getting Here
Directions to the Museum
The museum is located at 175 Beasley Road in Versailles, Kentucky — about 15 miles west of downtown Lexington and 50 miles east of Louisville.

From Lexington (I-64 / I-75)
Take US-60 West from Lexington toward Versailles. Continue through downtown Versailles on US-60. Turn left onto US-62 West (Midway Road). Turn right onto Beasley Road — the museum entrance is on your left. Total distance: approximately 15 miles, 20 minutes.

From Louisville (I-64 East)
Take I-64 East to the Versailles / US-60 exit. Follow US-60 East through Versailles. Turn right onto US-62 West, then right onto Beasley Road. The museum is on your left inside Woodford County Park. Total distance: approximately 50 miles, 55 minutes.

From Frankfort
Take US-60 East toward Versailles. Follow US-60 through town, then turn right onto US-62 West and right onto Beasley Road. Total distance: approximately 14 miles, 20 minutes.
By Car
Free on-site parking is available with a paved path from the lot to the museum entrance and boarding platform.
By Bus
Take Greyhound or Megabus to Lexington, KY. From Lexington, use LexTran Route 14 toward Versailles, then a local taxi or rideshare for the final leg.
Rideshare
Uber and Lyft both serve the Versailles area. From Lexington bus station, a rideshare to the museum costs approximately $20–$30.
By Bicycle
From downtown Versailles, head south on Main Street, west on US-60, then right onto Beasley Road. The ride is approximately 3 miles and takes 15–20 minutes.
Parking
Free on-site parking is available in a large lot adjacent to the museum. The lot is paved and connects directly via a paved accessible path to the museum entrance and train boarding platform. No parking fee, no permit required. Overflow parking is available in the Woodford County Park grounds on busy excursion days.

Strollers can be stored in the coach vestibule area during the train ride. The grounds are paved and level around the main museum area.
