A Scenic Journey Through Kentucky's Fall Colours

Settle into the comfortable seats of our vintage railcars as the Pumpkin Express rolls out of Versailles and into the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass countryside. Outside your window, the rolling hills shift from green to gold, amber, and rust as October takes hold of the landscape.

You'll pass through thoroughbred horse farms, limestone cuts, and open pastures — the same route that has carried passengers through this corner of Kentucky since the Louisville Southern Railroad first laid these tracks in the 1880s.

How the Pumpkin Patch Express Works

Board in Versailles

Arrive at Woodford County Park Station, collect your tickets, and climb aboard our vintage railcars. The locomotive is fired up and ready.

Scenic Fall Journey

Relax as the train rolls through the autumn countryside — horse farms, limestone cuts, and the golden Bluegrass landscape rolling past your window. Deboard after 5.5 miles to see the stunning overlook at the Kentucky River.

Pick Your Pumpkin

Step off at Abbott's platform and stroll through pumpkins — little ones for decorating, big ones for carving, and everything in between.

Head Home in Style

Board the train with your chosen pumpkin, settle back into your seat, and enjoy the return journey — a relaxing end to a perfect fall day.

From tiny decorative gourds to massive jack-o'-lantern candidates, we have pumpkins for every plan and every family member — including the little ones who want to carry their own.

Enjoy a cup of cool apple cider, a game of cornhole and let the kid's participate in games and win a prize or two. Grab a few family photos to remember your trip

Once you've made got the perfect one, bring your pumpkin aboard for the return journey. It's a uniquely Kentucky experience — picking a pumpkin and then watching the autumn landscape roll by from the window of a vintage train.

Know Before You Go

Tickets sell out quickly — book as early as possible. The Pumpkin Express is one of our most popular fall events.
Seating is open and first-come, first-served once aboard. Arrive early for the best seats.
Dress for the weather — open air cars are available and the autumn air can be brisk. Layering is recommended.
Pumpkins are available for purchase and priced based on size- usually around $3 for small and $5 for large. Cash and card accepted.
The train runs rain or shine. In the event of a rare cancellation, all ticket holders will be notified by email and text.
