August 2026 Updates: New Hobo Class, a Fresh Website, and Fall on the Horizon

There’s plenty happening at the Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum as summer rolls toward fall. From a new way to experience the train to an easier way to plan your visit online, we’re working to make every part of your Bluegrass Railroad experience better.

Introducing Hobo Class

One of the newest additions to our passenger experience is Hobo Class, an open-air car located directly behind the locomotive.

It gives passengers an up-close experience with the sights and sounds of the railroad—the locomotive working ahead, wheels on the rails, and the Kentucky countryside passing by in the open air.

Along with our traditional Coach and First Class options, Hobo Class gives visitors another way to choose the railroad experience that suits them.

A Newly Designed Website

We’ve also given our online home a fresh start.

The newly designed Bluegrass Railroad website by Petite Taway was built to make it easier to find train information, explore upcoming events, and—most importantly—purchase train tickets online.

Schedules, ride options, special events, museum information, and railroad news are easier to navigate, helping passengers go from planning a trip to reserving seats with fewer steps.

You’ll also find The Depot, our home for railroad news, restoration updates, volunteer stories, special events, and media coverage. The railroad may preserve the past, but that doesn’t mean planning your visit should feel like it.

Summer Trains Are Still Rolling

There’s still plenty of time to ride before summer ends.

Regular Saturday excursions continue through September 26, with trains currently scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Passengers can enjoy the historic railroad and Woodford County countryside while supporting the volunteer preservation work that keeps our trains and museum moving.

Pumpkin Patch Trains Are Coming

Fall is just around the bend.

Our popular Pumpkin Patch Trains are scheduled for October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. Autumn brings cooler weather, colorful Kentucky scenery, and one of our favorite family traditions back to the railroad.

Then, before we know it, the pumpkins will give way to Christmas as our Santa Claus Trains return in November and December.

Moving Forward While Preserving the Past

A new passenger car experience and a newly designed website may seem very different from restoring historic railroad equipment, but they serve the same goal: making the Bluegrass Railroad accessible to another generation.

Our volunteers continue working behind the scenes to maintain the railroad, care for historic equipment, operate trains, welcome visitors, and preserve Kentucky railroad history.

Now it’s easier than ever to see what’s happening, choose your ride, and reserve your seats.
