Bluegrass Railroad Featured Among Southern Living’s Best Fall Foliage Train Rides

As Seen in Southern Living — September 2017

Bluegrass Scenic Railroad & Museum was featured in Southern Living’s online guide, “The 16 Best Southern Train Rides for Spotting Fall Foliage,” originally published September 5, 2017.

The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum was included in Southern Living’s roundup of memorable fall foliage train rides in the South, putting our historic railroad in the company of scenic rail excursions from across the region.

The feature highlights our excursion from Versailles toward Tyrone, where passengers travel through the rolling Woodford County countryside aboard a historic train. In autumn, the route takes on an entirely different character as Kentucky’s trees trade their summer greens for shades of red, orange and gold.

Fall on the Bluegrass Railroad

For our passengers, the journey is about more than reaching a destination. It’s an opportunity to slow down, enjoy the countryside and experience rail travel the way generations before us did.

Southern Living also recognized one of our favorite fall traditions: the Pumpkin Patch Train.

Each October, these special excursions combine a ride aboard the Bluegrass Railroad with a seasonal family outing, making them a longtime favorite for children, parents and grandparents alike.

National Recognition, Kentucky Proud

Being featured by a national publication such as Southern Living is especially meaningful to our volunteers.

The Bluegrass Railroad is powered by people who donate their time to restore equipment, maintain the railroad, operate our trains, welcome passengers and preserve an important piece of Kentucky transportation history.

Recognition like this helps introduce that work—and the beauty of Versailles and Woodford County—to travelers from throughout the South and beyond.

We’re proud to represent Kentucky among Southern Living’s recommended fall railroad experiences.

When the leaves begin changing and autumn returns to the Bluegrass, we hope you’ll come experience it from one of the best seats around:

aboard the train.
