Rather than focusing only on traditional train excursions, the story offers a broader look at things to see and do around Kentucky. Imagery from Rail Explorers’ Bluegrass Division, which operates from the Bluegrass Railroad Museum property, helps showcase our historic rail corridor as part of the Commonwealth’s growing tourism scene.
A Different Way to Experience the Railroad
Visitors to our property can experience the railroad in more than one way.
The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum preserves Kentucky railroad history through our museum collection, historic equipment, and passenger excursions. Rail Explorers adds another experience by allowing visitors to travel the rails aboard pedal-powered rail bikes.
Both experiences begin in Versailles and introduce visitors to the historic railroad corridor and the Woodford County countryside from a perspective that is difficult to find anywhere else.
For people discovering the area through a statewide travel feature, that combination helps show that our railroad is more than a destination for dedicated railfans. It is also part of a larger Kentucky tourism experience.
Bringing Visitors to Versailles
Coverage in the Herald-Leader is especially meaningful because it reaches people throughout central Kentucky who may be looking for their next day trip, family outing, or weekend adventure.
Every visitor who comes to ride the rails also has an opportunity to discover Versailles and Woodford County—from the rolling Bluegrass landscape to the other attractions, restaurants, shops, and historic places that make our community special.
That means attention for the railroad can have an impact beyond our tracks.
Historic Rails, New Experiences
One of the things we value most about our railroad is the way it connects the past with the present.
The same rail corridor that represents an important piece of Kentucky transportation history now gives visitors several ways to experience it. Some climb aboard one of our excursion trains. Others take to the rails with Rail Explorers. Many discover the museum and historic equipment while they are here.
Different experiences, but one shared railroad.
Proud to Be Part of Kentucky Tourism
We appreciate the Lexington Herald-Leader for including the Bluegrass railroad property in its Kentucky travel coverage.
Every feature like this introduces another group of people to what volunteers and supporters have worked for decades to preserve here in Versailles.
Whether you come for a historic train ride, a rail-bike adventure, the museum, or simply a day exploring Woodford County, we hope your visit begins with the same thought:
There’s more to discover along the rails in Versailles.
